Levi's Nursery

As soon as it was more public that I was pregnant I got asked the question, “what’s your nursery theme?” over and over again. I thought this was kind of a strange question because you wouldn’t really ask someone what their living room “theme” was. I know that people like to make nurseries babyish, I mean, it is for the baby, but that’s never really been for me. I think there’s a way to make it child-like and fun with details, but also match with the rest of the house which is what I was aiming for. I mean no offense to people who like nurseries with baby themes, but to each their own and that’s just not my style. I kept telling people that my theme was “English cottage” but with a crib in it.

I knew I’d want to use a mix of antiques and newer furniture to make Levi’s space feel warm and lived in. I also wanted pieces that would stand the test of time and that he wouldn’t necessarily grow out when he’s older. For example, we chose an antique dresser and added a topper to make it a changing table, once he’s out of diapers, we can easily take off the topper and it’s just a nice dresser! We got very lucky and the one we chose matches in color so closely it looks like it was stained to match perfectly!

I picked a classic-looking crib that also didn’t cost an arm and leg (even better because I waited until it went on sale!). We went with a Newton Baby mattress, not only because they’re breathable, but because they’re washable so you don’t run the risk of bacteria growing on it from the inevitable spit ups and accidents. I also love this sweet gingham crib sheet we got to add a little bit of pattern.

I got lucky and found a Pottery Barn glider on Facebook Marketplace and it’s been essential for us! It was the only place where I could nurse comfortably for the first few weeks after my unplanned c-section.

I searched for a long time for a rug. I feel like a rug really pulls a room together and warms it up. I discovered Loom & Co through Instagram and loved their rugs and the fact that they’re made-to-order so you can customize the size, which was necessary for us because his bedroom is pretty small, but I didn’t want a little dinky rug. We went with this one, but they had so many beautiful designs it was hard to choose! Fair warning, because they’re custom made, they take a while to get to you, so order ahead!

Most of the art is from antique stores as well as the mirror over his crib. Etsy is also a great place to search for art! Living in California, and also just being a little nervous about it being in a baby’s room, we hung everything with earthquake hooks so that they are super secure!

HomeGoods is a place I frequent for things like baskets, throw pillows and blankets and other little decorative and organizational items. I linked most of what I could below!
