Holiday Cookie Boxes

Baking during the holidays is a must-do for me. I recently came across a post—actually several different ones with the same sentiment— about the pressures of the holidays and traditions. I love traditions, but the post really spoke to me because it called out how traditions can end up feeling like things we have to do, becoming obligatory and no longer fun. It went on to say that things can still be traditions even if you don’t get to them every year. And if they are no longer bringing you joy, give them up! There is already so much pressure during the holidays, especially for parents trying to make everything magical for their kids. It was such a relief to hear this and really let it soak in. With that in mind, I started to think of my laundry list of holiday activities and traditions and considered which things were non-negotiable for me, the top things I wanted to prioritize and which things could go on my “if you get to it” list. And baking cookies and sharing them with friends and neighbors was something I knew I wanted to make the time for.

I love baking and sharing and it’s the perfect season for it. This year I made four different types of cookies—peppermint thumbprint, ginger molasses, shortbread and a new-to-me recipe of chewy snickerdoodles. I wanted there to be variation in each one and I was very happy with how the combination turned out. I got these small window cookie boxes, gift tags, and fun assorted ribbon to take my cookie gifting to the next level. I will say, the boxes ended up smaller than I expected, but worked out perfectly for my needs and easily fit 8 medium-small cookies!
