Felt Pie Garland DIY

I love felt garlands! I’ve been collecting different holiday-themed ones to hang in Levi’s room over the past year and it’s been so fun to make his bookshelf a little festive during different seasons (you can see his Halloween garlands in this post). So when I came across a felt pie garland I knew we needed one! I thougth it looked like a fun project and something I could make myself so I got to work pulling up inspiration and gathering materials. If you don’t want to DIY, this is the one I modeled mine after.

Materials:

  • Felt in cashmere tan, antique white and goldenrod

  1. First I figured out what size I wanted my pie slices to be and then I used some scrap cardboard to cut a template. I used the template to outline all of my slices onto the cashmere tan felt and the shiny champagne fabric (just enough for the apple pie slices).

  2. Next, I cut out a slightly smaller triangle template and used that to cut out the goldenrod pieces for my pumpkin pies. All the measurements are really dependent on how large or small you want your pies.

  3. I used approximately 1/2 inch strips of the cashmere tan to create all the crusts. Taking two strips, I twisted them together, using a hot glue gun dot on each end to secure the pieces together.

  4. Then I used my pinking sheers to cut strips of the cashmere tan felt, I made them longer than they needed to be so that I could trim them down to the right sizes once I laid them out on top of my apple pie slices.

  5. To be honest, I improvised the whipped cream puffs a little bit. I watched the tutorial for the cream puffs in this video (starting at about 9:30 in the video), and mostly followed it, but I didn’t have the patience to create a template and carefully cut out the shape so mine were pretty messy and yet they still turned out great! So don’t be intimidated.

  6. Last is all about assembly! I used hot glue to glue on my goldenrod and champagne fabric onto the cashmere tan felt bases, criss-crossed the apple pie strips to my liking across the apple pie pieces and glued those on as well. Then I trimmed the excess pieces off and glued the crusts and cream puff pieces on.

  7. I liked the look of the hand sewn edges so I stitched around everything after they were all glued together, but it’s totally optional. Then glue everything to your cord and voilà!
