Early Fall in the Apple Orchard

Outfit Details:

Chambray Top (old, similar here), ModCloth Skirt, Paul Green Oxfords (old, similar here)

This past weekend we kicked off the season with a trip to Gizdich Ranch for apple picking (and I got to check one thing off of my fall bucket list!). Somehow, despite my love for holiday and seasonal activities, last year was the first year we ever visited an apple orchard, but I now want to make sure it becomes a yearly tradition. Temperatures are still pretty hot so I chose a breathable, short sleeve chambray top and an a-line skirt in an autumnal color for the occasion. I definitely recommend flat comfortable shoes for strolling the orchard lanes. And the experience felt just a touch sweeter because we brought our own baskets for collecting our apples.

Now that we have more than a dozen apples, I have to get to baking! I have a couple of ideas already for new recipes I’d like to try. Gizdich Ranch also makes homemade pies, but the line was a bit too long for us and so we decided we’d be better off baking our own, but next time I’d love to check out theirs.

If you’re in it for some cute fall pictures, I have a couple of tips for you!

  1. Try to go early in the morning or later in the evening for better lighting. We didn’t end up doing that this year and not only was it hot and more crowded, the sun was super bright and high in the sky making it a little harder to find good photo spots.

  2. Bring your own basket! I found a couple of cute ones for a good price at our local thrift shop, but if you don’t have time to check out yours, Amazon has a few different options like this one and this one.

  3. If you end up with a bigger basket like mine, add in some color (and some cushioning) by adding a plaid fall scarf or piece of fabric to the basket. It’ll help make your basket look more full without overdoing it on the apples and adds a fall touch.

  4. If going during the best lighting isn’t an option, find little patches of shade to take photos in so you avoid squinting or getting raccoon-like shadows on your face.
