Cardigan Classics

Outfit details:

Gap Cardigan, Madewell Jeans, Sam Edelman Loafers, Purse (old, similar), Etsy Earrings (old, Similar Earrings)

It’s finally starting to cool off and I’ve even been wearing long sleeves for our morning walks! As I mentioned in this post, I’m working on redefining my style and updating my closet. One thing I’ve decided is that the drop shoulder style is just not for me. It’s been around for a long time now, but still feels like a trend rather than a classic style and I just don’t find it flattering on my body type. So instead, I’ve been on the hunt for a few classic cardigans for when the weather starts to cool and we transition fully into fall (please, please can this be tomorrow?). I’ve been loving the lady jacket sweater trend. They look so chic and timeless—like something my grandmother would have worn and will continue to look good for decades. I love the stripes and gold buttons on this one. This fair isle lady jacket is so festive for the holidays without being over the top and, bonus, there’s a matching toddler sweater!

Along with lady jacket sweaters, I’ve noticed cardigans buttoned up and worn as shirts seem to also be popular. It’s a “trend” I can stand behind, especially because if it goes out of fashion, you can continue to wear the cardigan open and in the classic style and you don’t have to ditch the whole thing. It looks great with thinner cardigans or even the thicker knits. I bought this one in a deep chocolate brown and it’s oh-so-soft. And you can’t go wrong with a basic cardigan, especially not at this price point. I’ve had my eye on this updated version of a fisherman’s cardigan for a while now. The gold buttons and slightly exaggerated sleeve make it a bit more feminine.
