Babymoon at Korakia, Palm Springs

The way things shook out, I waited a little too long to plan and take our babymoon. Since I was nearing the third trimester and getting more uncomfortable by the minute, we knew we didn’t want to go anywhere too far, but we still wanted it to feel like a bigger trip to celebrate something special. Palm Springs felt like the right distance away (only a short plane ride from San Jose) and different enough from anything around us to feel special.

I think I first came across Korakia Pensione on Instagram, earmarking it as a special looking, boutique hotel that felt like you were in another country while being easier to get to. Half the hotel is Moroccan-inspired and half is Mediterranean-inspired and all of it is dreamy. It exceeded my expectations immediately upon arrival.

It’s located close to downtown Palm Springs, but tucked away on a quiet street right up against the mountains. When we arrived, we walked through a peaceful little courtyard with a fountain and soothing music playing. We were greeted with an iced, Moroccan tea and taken to our room. The room we chose was small, but charming, with good quality sheets and towels (this may sound random, but I feel like you can tell the level of care a hotel has by their linens), a comfortable bed and a record player (already playing).

Each morning we ate breakfast (which was included) in the Moroccan courtyard. There were typically only two things to choose from, but everything was so fresh, delicious, not to mention beautiful. The whole place had a very relaxing vibe. There was soft music playing by the pools, no one was speaking too loudly, it really felt like you had the place to yourself. There were two pools, one on the Mediterranean side and one on the Moroccan side—both had beautiful daybeds and lounge chairs to relax on. The Mediterranean was my favorite! In the evenings they even play movies on a big screen you can watch from the pool.

We loved that you could borrow bikes from the hotel to get into town. It ended up being much needed for me, as it was SO hot, and being very pregnant, the idea of walking even a couple of blocks in triple digit temperatures sounded horrible!

Besides going to the main street to eat and browse some of the shops, mostly we stayed at the hotel since we really came to relax and enjoy the pool!

What to Pack

Our trip was pretty relaxed and very hot, so packing was mostly just basics for hot weather!

  • Lightweight dresses

  • Sandals

  • Heels (if you want to get a little dressier in the evening)

  • Swim suits

  • Breezy coverups

  • Sun hat

  • Sunglasses

Where to Eat

  1. Like I mentioned, breakfast at Korakia is both included and delicious!

  2. Sammy G’s Tuscan Grill - a short walk from the hotel, Sammy G’s had delicious Italian food.

  3. Farm - Highly recommend checking out Farm! We came for brunch and there were so many things on the menu that I wanted to try, I easily could have come for every meal.

  4. Great Shakes - grab a shake, malt or float! This place was a must for us ever since Brendan had his first date & walnut milkshake here and raved about it for years (I mention it in this post).
