5 Coats You Need in Your Closet
Even though I’m a California girl and we don’t get seasons the way other parts of the country do, I’ve always had a love for coats. I probably own quite a few too many, but they really complete your Fall and Winter outfits. Here are 5 coats that everyone should have in their closet.
TRENCH COAT - Ideally waterproof or at least water resistant, a trench coat is a classic and makes you feel much more put together even on dreary, rainy days. I love this one because it’s roomy enough to wear a sweater underneath and also a little heavier weight so it still keeps you warm even if you don’t wear a thicker layer with it.
WOOL COAT - Another classic, everyone needs a wool coat! They’re perfect with dresses for fancier occasions, but look just as good with pants. I’d been looking for the perfect camel-colored wool coat for years and finally found this one last month at Macy’s during one of their sales! A black wool coat is also a closet staple, I just ordered one from JCrew last week.
QUILTED COAT - Somewhere in between a dressy wool coat and a casual coat, this quilted Michael Kors coat works will all sorts of outfits. I love the dark green color which still feels like a neutral, but adds a little color to my coat closet. It comes with a waist defining belt, but I often where it open without it.
LIGHTWEIGHT SPORTY COAT - I had this coat in the shorter jacket version for years before deciding it would be nice to have a longer one for extra warmth as well. I love the v-shaped lines of the stitching around your waist because it pulls in which makes it flattering even though it’s a little puffier of a coat. It’s lightweight and easily packable which is also a plus.
PUFFER COAT - A heavy, down or similar coat is a must if you live or travel anywhere where snows in the winter. I usually think that those types of coats are purely functional and can’t be cute since they’re so bulky. So I was pleasantly surprised when a friend at work had this Calvin Klein coat which is SUPER warm and thick, but also still flattering. It was perfect for our trip to Iceland in February, which as you can imagine, was freezing. The hood is detachable and it had the double zipper feature which comes in handy for sitting since it is such a long coat. This one is a few years old, but I found a similar one here.
